Advancing New Canadian Women in Technology (ANCWT) is a bridging employment program for new immigrant and refugee women who have technical skills in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science and Information Technology from their home country and the Canadian job market. The program was established in 2016 by Dr. Sawsan Abdul-Majid. Since then it had a pilot and two successful cohorts. Thirteen new immigrant women participated in the program in 2018 and fifteen in 2019. The cohorts included candidates from Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Bangladesh, China, Kuwait, Libya, India, Iraq, Palestine, Sudan and Syria. Many of the participants found meaningful employment through the program. ANCWT is currently collaborating with employers such as Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Canadian Board Service Agency, Innovapost, Thermo Fishers, V&R Consulting, IBM, Kinaxis, and CENGN. ANCWT was awarded the Advancing Immigrant Women in STEM by Impact AI in 2018.
